I have to laugh at myself...

I consider myself a well-organized person in general, but for some reason, when it comes to my recipes... they are all over the place!

Putting together this cookbook not only will make it easier to share my recipes, it will also help me to be able to find my own recipes! Lol

While this is a work-in-progress, already there is a nice variety of recipes; from wholesome breakfasts, to creative salads, old family favorites and even some 'raw' recipes and home remedies. Many are Dairy Free and Gluten Free!

Hypocrite!?

Occasionally I give talks at local schools on health and wellness, life stuff or whatever they need me to talk about.

A couple of weeks ago I was at Eden Prairie High School to talk to a Teen Issues class about Stress Management. Toward the end of the talk a few students shot out some quick questions?

"So, if diet pop has all these harmful chemicals, if you were told that you had to drink one or the other, which one would it be?"

To me this was a clear answer, "The regular soda, even with all of its high fructose corn syrup."

Another quick question came from a sharp young man in the front row, whose scheme behind his words became more obvious with each word, "You said that we shouldn't drink pop or coffee, why did you say that it's okay for adults to drink coffee?"

There was so much more to this answer than I could explain in the few minutes we had left and with the noise of the bustling students as they shuffled to the door. Although, the question I knew that I really had to answer was, "Are you speaking hypocritically?"

"First of all, I do not speak in 'should's', 'must's', 'aught to's' and the like, I provide information for individuals to make a decision on their own. As for coffee, there are many studies that show that just drinking one cup of coffee encourages the body to flush a days worth of minerals down the toilet. Your growing bodies need those minerals."

His slight grimace turned to a look of perhaps slight surprise that I had not been cornered. We exchanged looks of acceptance and satisfaction as I asked if that answered his question and the class was dismissed. Bright kid- keep asking questions!

Teenagers- they keep you on your toes!

By the way- I got a stack of wonderful thank you cards from this class. What a great job Ms. Shufman does in instilling these good habits and finding resources for her students! Thanks- I love reading the cards!

Perhaps I will write later how coffee can benefit some adults.

Laugh at Yourself!

The other day I was at an appointment at which the person providing a service for me met my husband Jon for the first time. Jon left the room for a moment to take a call and she commented (not verbatim), "Wow, he's really funny. You guys are so opposite!"

Oh, my goodness! I laughed really hard on the inside and calmly said, "Yeah, we're quite a case of 'opposites attract'."

Now I laugh out loud about this- clearly I have only shown my more stoic side to her! ;-)

Breathing Exercise- a funny story!

I just have to tell you all this funny story- a little laugh therapy!

This morning I was doing my breathing exercises and getting ready for savasana. We recently got a new kitty who is about 8 months old and is still making quite a few kitten discoveries. Apparently she was observing my belly breath movement as I was counting and deliberately breathing into my belly as I lie relaxed on my back. To make it even more exciting, this mysterious movement (for her) was happening underneath a blanket! She apparently was able to hold off from doing anything for a couple of minutes, but sure enough, when I was good and relaxed- she pounced!- on that mysterious moving object under the blanket!

I was startled humored and wondering if I could get back to my practice. It took me a few minutes to stop laughing, smiling and to finally be able to relax my stomach once again and dissipate the thought of the potentiality of it all happening again! Good thing she is not heavy!
