What is Body-typing? . . . And What it Isn't

Remember those silly quizzes in Seventeen Magazine like, "What does your underwear color say about you?" . . .

Maybe they have them in guys' magazines too . . . like, "What do your shoes say about the car you drive?"

I just used "like" twice, wow . . . time warp!

What is Body-typing? . . . And What it Isn't - Tara Baklund- TarasBook.com

I've been fascinated by "typing" since I was very young. I loved to observe similarities and differences in people. This later translated into language and culture, and health and wellness.

It might have sounded like I was belittling those quizzes from magazines, but I'm really not. When I was a teenager, ----- years ago ;) I actually got some really helpful tips from the one magazine I subscribed to religiously. These little quizzes were like new lenses with which I could observe people more in depth.

So, over the years I have developed a strong sense of what Body-typing is (to me) and what it is in not.

What it is: A traditional and wise way to observe ones body, emotions, environment and other people. By taking this third-person-like perspective new options and solutions seem to magically appear.

What it isn't: after years of struggling with my own health and self-image, I've learned that Body-typing is best used as a tool for observation, rather than judgement. The moment we move into the realm of judgement we want to change ourselves to be something different, rather than valuing who and how we are.

We will discuss discernment vs. judgement in a later post. :)

In my experience personally and with others, when we use Body-typing wisely we develop more compassion for ourselves, and then naturally for others.

This simple shift in perspective makes any challenge, particularly in health and mental/emotional blockages, much easier to overcome!
