Goals? Why? I'm just doing what I love to do . . . sometimes I make money, sometimes I don't.
Water-types may not even care if they set or reach goals. A person dominant in the Water Element is highly creative. They get lost in their imagination and in creating- so much so it usually doesn't even occur to them to set goals. When they have a surplus of their creations they may, on a whim, go to an expo or an art fair and sell their wares and do very well without a plan.
Imagine Water: what objective does it have but to react to its own nature and its environment. If it's cold, the water may freeze. If there is an obstacle, it will go around. One thing is true, Water must keep moving or transforming or it will become stagnant and prone to dis-ease.
If I were asked by a Water-type, "What would be a healthy goal for me?" I would encourage this person to do what helps them to keep flowing through life.
Now imagine Steve Jobs, the brilliant and tenacious innovator of this century. He embodied a tremendous amount of the Fire Element shown in his drive and direct and sharp manner, but he was also full of the creative Water Element. Fire aside, what do you think would have happened had Steve not channeled his creative abilities? Water-types who naturally have less Fire and perhaps more Watery Earth Element can tend to slow down and stagnate.
What would a more Earthy Steve Jobs had been like? An Earthy and Watery Steve Jobs would have been more creative in the home environment. Perhaps innovating in the architectural or design realm, but very unlikely to have created such a wave in history . . . hehe, did you like that metaphor? wave? ;) Yeah, let's run with that! To make a wave you need momentum, you need force. That is a very Fiery characteristic. Don't get me wrong, people with dominance of the other elements can make waves too, they just come in different forms.
So, what would an Earthy wave be like? Steve Jobs was ahead of his time, but he also had the drive to push for things to happen. If he had been as Earthy as he was Fiery in addition to his highly creative Water side, his wave would likely have come years later. Think of the creator whose work is value posthumously. It take someone with tremendous fortitude to push for people to see what they see when they see it, rather than years down the road.
So, my point is, Water-types can be "successful" in their daily life. The undertone of all my teaching is Self-compassion.
If a Water-dominant person compares himself to Steve Jobs, he could feel like a failure. We must strive to see and appreciate our own unique strengths and capitalize on these. Believe me, the world can only handle so many people like a Steve Jobs- and I say that with great respect.
Flowing into Balance:
You may not become world renown for your creative endeavors, but keep at it, for the sake of your own joy and happiness! You may inspire a child by your work decades after you are gone from this Earth. How powerful is that!?
