Are You "In Your Element"?

You've heard this expression before, right?  "To be in one's element"

What I love about Body-typing is that, although it seems so foreign to our culture, it's still in our language in euphemisms like "to be in one's element".

This typically means that you're living life or an aspect of life that is intrinsically suited to you.

It can mean that you're a stay-at-home mom and it's the perfect life for you and the day-to-day challenges do not seem as rigorous as they do to someone whose deepest calling is not this role.

Perhaps you're working in a smelly barn, that someone else sees as a deplorable way to spend a hot afternoon. You, on the other hand, are delighted to be with your beloved animals and in nature and welcome the familiar aroma.

These are big examples of "being in one's element". With Body-typing I teach people to get to the more and more subtle levels of themselves so that feeling "off" is not such a foreign and vulnerable state. I aim to help a person be able to notice and even prevent being out-of-sorts.

Here's a personal example . . .

It's mid-April as I write this and for the last couple of years as spring approaches I've had the experience of being extra emotional (particularly weepy) during the early weeks in March.

I'm not typically a highly emotive person in this way so for the last couple of years I've been somewhat surprised by this occurrence.

Well, the pattern is strong enough by now that I more quickly recognize it and see that a deeper part of me seems to be tuning into the changes of my environment- and as the trees get sappy at this time of the year, so do I!

I teach Body-typing to help people tune into their bodies and the many other factors that affect them: food, exercise, people, environment, etc.

Most of all, the lesson I infuse into all this is to have self-compassion.

Free yourself and allow yourself to be fully in your element!
